The Riverbank Cafe is a seafood cafe in West Bay, Britain. The building is situated on a causeway, as such the dining area is on 2 levels with perspectives of the stream and beyond to the ocean. In 2006, The Guardian paper placed it at the very top of the list of its Top 5 seafood restaurants. In 2004, it was voted one of The Observer newspaper's Top ten Seafood Cafes. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall also asserts that it is among the best fish cafes in the South West, and is potentially the most child-friendly eatery in the country. It in addition has received vital commend food magazine and Harden's Eatery Guide The eatery serves local fish and is closed in the December and Jan months ( the months when the fishermen do not go out in the area due to coarse seas ).

History -
The origins of the Riverbank stretch into the early part of the prior century when a tent was erected during the summer to provide tea and cakes. This got replaced by increasingly enlarged wooden sheds and a Post Office was found on the same site. The present owners, who had been in occupation since 1964, made a decision to reconstruct the Riverbank in 1976 to a design by the designers Piers Gough and Roger Zogolovitch. The building has had one or two additions since that date but has stayed principally the same. They got the Riverbank in 1964 when the trade was restricted to local fishermen, coach parties and folk on camping vacations in the area. The menu was reasonably basic with Roast dinners and Cream Teas the specializations. However local fish and shellfish were listed.

The reconstruct in 1976 coincided with the dissemination of auto possession and the purchase of vacation houses. The demand modified radically and we were shortly offering a full seafood menu and enticing customers from far and wide. Just after this, Keith Floyd's T.V. Programs started and seafood became rather more preferred and increasingly hence when, at a later time, Rick Stein arrived on the scene. West Bay became more subject to flooding and storm breakage and the Riverbank got flooded many times during the 60's & 70's.
